Abstract
A model of cleavage applicable to metals cleaving on the slip plane is developed in which a crack is initiated at the end of a low angle tilt boundary terminating inside the crystal. The strength of the metal is determined by the difficulty of growth of the crack. Satisfactory agreement is obtained with the experimental results for zinc. Keywords
