Abstract
CONSIDERABLE interest has been manifested in the subject of thromboembolism during the past few years, and numerous reports have appeared in the literature on the various preventive measures. As far as we know, however, no long-range mortality statistics following an extended trial of one method of treatment have been reported, and it is our purpose here to analyze the possible effects of femoral-vein interruption on the mortality of pulmonary embolism at the Massachusetts General Hospital.Interruption of the femoral veins was introduced in this hospital in 1939 as a measure hoped to be of value in the prevention of fatal . . .
