NONEXCRETION OF JAUNDICE-SERUM ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE IN BILE OF NORMAL DOGS

Abstract
Blood plasma with high alkaline phos-phatase activity, obtained from dogs with common bile duct obstruction, was injd. intraven. into 3 dogs with Thomas-type duodenal fistulas. The serum phosphatase remained at a high level in the recipient dogs for at least 48 hrs. and very little of the infused phosphatase was excreted in the bile. These data indicate that a normally functioning liver does not actively remove phosphatase of this type from the blood and, therefore, contradict the hypothesis that it originates in extrahepatic tis- sues.
