Band Theory and Metallic Antiferromagnetism

Abstract
In 1951 Slater proposed that there is an intimate relation between the band structure and metallic antiferromagnetism. In this paper, we attempt to examine this relation by evaluating the band structure of perfect antiferromagnetic Cr and γ Mn by the Green's function method, and that of an ordered NiMn in the antiferromagnetic state by the tightbinding approximation. It is found that each of these substances has a very characteristic band structure, which seems to be quite favorable for antiferromagnetism.
