A SUGGESTED RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PROTOPLASTIC BRIDGES AND VIRUS DISEASES IN PLANTS

Abstract
In connection with a study of the stylet tracts of aphids as related to the transmission of the virus of yellow dwarf of onion, special attention was given to the possible role of plasmodesmen in the intercellular spread of the virus. Plasmodesmen were present in all plants examined. They ranged in size from several to + 60 [mu] in diam., and usually connected the cells in all directions although the number between adjacent cells varied greatly.
