Abstract
The concept of the single mode 'squeezed state', a minimum uncertainty state with reduced fluctuations in either of the two canonically conjugate variables, is generalised to an arbitrary number of modes. It is shown that the n-mode squeezed states are a subset of the generalised coherent states of Sp(2n:R).Keywords
