Abstract
A detailed study was made of the effects of pH, ionic strength, and time on the ORD [optical rotatory dispersion] spectra of cytochrome c, and a partial study was made of the dimer and higher polymers. Changes in ORD can be correlated with spectrophotometric changes. Specific ion effects are observed at pH 2.2 in ferricytochrome c. At pH extremes the ionic strength of the solution affects the depth of the 233-m[mu] trough. The ORD of ferrocytochrome c is unaltered over a wide pH range and is the same in monomer and dimer.
