Abstract
Extensive disorder occurs in the anion sublattice of PbF2 above a temperature TC approximately=705K. The nature of this disorder has been studied using Raman scattering at high temperatures and also a simple theoretical model which takes account of the effects of anharmonicity and defect-induced scattering on the Raman spectrum. Quite good agreement is obtained between theory and experiment. Keywords
