Isolation and structure of a new factor of the vitamin B12 group: guanosine diphosphate factor B

Abstract
A substance of the vitamin B12 group, identified as guanosine diphosphate factor B, was isolated from cultures of a strain of Nocardia rugosa. Evidence is submitted which indicates that this substance (factor 1) is a guanosine 5[image]-pyrophosphoric ester of factor B, in which ribose is linked to N-9 of guanine. The significance of this compound as a possible intermediate in the biosynthesis of vitamin B12 is discussed.
