Relationships between structure and properties in long-chain bis(n-alkylammonium)tetrabromocuprates(II) and bis(n-alkylammonium)tetrabromomanganates(II)

Abstract
Compounds of the general formula (n-CnH2n+1NH3)2MBr4 with M = Cu, Mn and n varying between 11 and 16 have been investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry, infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The crystal structures and the thermal behaviour of such systems are discussed and compared with those of the homologous chlorocompounds, outlining some relationships between structure and physico-chemical behaviour.
