Abstract
Bipolaris australiensis is recorded as an opportunistic pathogen of humans. The fungus was recovered from a biopsy specimen of skin taken from an area of viral vesicular dermatitis on the scalp. Hyphal elements of B. australiensis were seen in the tissues. The taxonomy of the genera Bipolaris, Drechslera, Exserohilum and Helminthosporium is discussed with particular reference to published case reports. Keywords
