Control of Eating Behavior in an Obese Patient by Avoidance Conditioning

Abstract
A behavioral treatment utilizing avoidance conditioning with an obese patient is described. Favorite foods (CS) were paired with a highly noxious odor (UCS) in the conditioning paradigm and a weight loss of 30 lb. over 22 wk. was reported. Problems of control over environment and habituation to the UCS are discussed.
