Correlation of Cellular Immunity With Human Papillomavirus 16 Status and Outcome in Patients With Advanced Oropharyngeal Cancer

Abstract
The observation that patients with human papillomavirus (HPV) 16–associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma have a better prognosis may define these patients as having a distinct subset of head and neck cancers.1,2 These findings have provided an opportunity to investigate how the biological differences of HPV-positive and -negative patient cohorts influence disease progression and outcomes.
