Abstract
In the light of past experience with maize it may still be a little premature to suggest that the crop can make a significant contribution to British agriculture. Nevertheless, the continuing expansion of maize research in European countries indicates that further improvements in varieties and on techniques of crop production can be expected, and very little more is needed to make the crop economical for fodder or ensilage over considerable areas of central and southern England.
