Abstract
Summary In Mississippi recorded autochthonous infections with Echinococcus granulosus have been discovered in seven humans and six dogs. This infection appears to be more common in Mississippi than in other parts of the continental United States exclusive of Alaska. The prevalence of infection with the larval stage of E. granulosus in 33,174 native Mississippi swine surveyed between April, 1957, and March, 1958, was 0.9%. In two areas where swine were found infected a small sample of red fox, raccoon, opossum and bobcat revealed no infections with the adult stage of the parasite. Keywords
