Ultraviolet Photoemission and Inverse Photoemission Spectra of K0.30MoO3

Abstract
Vacuum ultraviolet photoemission spectra (UPS) of the blue bronze K0.30MoO3 were measured at 80 and 293 K by using synchrotron radiation. The spectrum at 80 K showed an enhancement of the photoemission intensity at the binding energies (E B) of around 0.1 and 1.0 eV compared with that at 293 K. These results are interpreted as due to the reduced zone effect by the Peierls transition taking place at 180 K. The inverse photoemission spectrum measured at room temperature has shown that the density of the unoccupied conduction band states is rather low near the Fermi level (E F) and has a broad maximum around 2.5 eV above E F.
