Abstract
This paper presents the design and control strategies of the electronically controlled continuously variable transmission termed ECVT-II. ECVT-II has been developed by employing electronic control system for line pressure (belt clamping pressure) and pulley ratio, based on the current ECVT with a hydraulic control system. ECVT-II has obtained significant improvements in fuel economy and accelerating performance owing to the electronic control system. Further, driveability improvement in terms of smoothness while maintaining good response has been realized by applying the so-called 'fuzzy control" to the pulley ratio.
