Effect of Gonadotropins on Corpora Lutea of Pseudopregnant Rabbits11

Abstract
Single, intravenous injections of various gonadotropic hormone preparations (FSH, HCG or LH) were given to pseudopregnant rabbits to study their effect on weight and histology of the corpora lutea. A relatively large dose of FSH injected on day 9 of pseudopregnancy caused regression of the corpora lutea, whereas the same effect was obtained with relatively small doses of HCG or LH. Luteinizing hormone appeared to be the gonadotropin which most readily caused the regression. The ability of 50 μg of LH to cause degenerative changes of the corpora lutea of pseudopregnancy increased with their age and growth. (Endocrinology75: 321, 1964)
