THE PRODUCTION OF ACETATE FROM FATTY ACIDS BY NEUROSPORA

Abstract
A group of N. crassa mutants requiring either satd. or unsatd. fatty acids for growth was studied. Acetate could substitute for the higher fatty acids. Carbon-source expts. indicated that these mutants were acetate mutants that could obtain acetate from degradation of various fatty acids; all those tried except palmitic and stearic acid were effective.
