Insulin Allergy A Report of Eight Cases with Generalized Symptoms

Abstract
The clinical histories and immunologic studies on 8 cases with generalized insulin allergy are reported. The immunologic examinations comprised skin tests with insulin of various brands and spp. (including human insulin), passive Transfer tests and the collodion precipitation test of Cannon-Marshall. It was demonstrated that the patients were allergic to all kinds of insulin without regard to its origin and it was concluded that the insulin protein itself acted as the allergen. The clinical aspect of insulin allergy and its relationship to insulin sensitivity and insulin resistance are discussed.
