To the Editor: —Recently, in reviewing an issue ofThe Journal(181:989 [Sept 15] 1962), I was particularly interested in the article by Dr. Harvey Blank of Miami, Fla. He made the statement in regard to Peutz-Jeghers syndrome that not all of the patients have polyps but that polyps should be sought because of the possibility of intestinal carcinoma developing. I think that this statement is somewhat misleading, in that, to date, in more than 182 cases reported in the literature, there have been no instances reported of the development of a metastatic lesion from any of these polyps. Correctly, these polyps should be sought for because they may cause difficulty by recurrent episodes of intussusception and intestinal obstruction. They also may cause chronic hypochromic anemia and sometimes produce a severe gastrointestinal hemorrhage. In a recent review of the cases seen at the Mayo Clinic and those reported in
