The biological action of substances related to thyroxine. 10. The deiodination of thyroxine in thyroidectomized rats

Abstract
Simultaneous administration of butyl 4-hydroxy - 3:5 - diiodobenzoate (BHDB) substantially reduced the output of urinary iodide after injection of [3[image]:5[image]- I131] thyroxine. Previous results in conflict with this are probably due both to the rapid metabolism of BHDB when given prior to thyroxine and to the diversion of fecal iodide to the kidneys with the constipation caused by BHDB.
