Abstract
A technique to investigate the adequacy of the damped harmonic‐oscillator model for infrared absorption in thin films is described, together with a simple procedure for extracting the material parameters and the film thickness from the transmission curve. The methods are illustrated by application to several ionic crystals. Keywords
