Protoplasmic Potentials in Halicystis

Abstract

Unbalanced NaCl (without Ca, Mg, etc.) causes the normally positive P. D. across the protoplasm of Halicystis ovalis to reverse in sign, before falling to zero. A suggested mechanism is the alteration of the external protoplasmic surface before the vacuolar surface is affected.
