Abstract
We report the derivation of a closed‐form expression for the acoustic surface‐wave velocity in an isotropic medium which is elastically nonlinear. An expression is given for the particle displacement of the second harmonic generated, and its variation with distance is shown. The amplitude of the harmonic is proportional to the power density of the fundamental frequency input. Numerical results are given for fused quartz. Keywords
