An experimental analysis of latent learning.

Abstract

Extra-maze cues were largely excluded from a simple alley T-maze. Rats were allowed to explore without food; they were then fed in one endbox and immediately thereafter were given a free choice in the maze. 28 of 32 rats (87.5%) chose the path to the endbox in which they had been fed. Control expts. showed that successful performance depended on previous maze exploration, in part on cues not present at the choice point, and on the prior feeding in one endbox. Similar results were obtained whether the endbox cues were visual (white-black) or tactual-kinesthetic (different floors).
