Abstract
In order to assess the current status of teacher preparation in career education, questionnaires were sent to institutions of higher learning having a degree program in special education. The results of the survey showed that even with mandated legislation and the present emphasis at the federal level on career education for all children, the need for teacher preparation in the area of career education for the exceptional child is not being met. However, the majority of schools surveyed that did not have such a course offering felt that career education for the exceptional child was an advisable area to be covered. The responses to the questionnaire yielded content areas and objectives for proposed courses in career education for the exceptional child. Keywords
