Abstract
Adsorption and reverse-phase micro-particulate columns have been used in conjunction with a variable wavelength UV detector to develop sensitive and selective HPLC procedures for the determination of benzo (a) pyrene in coal tar pitch volatiles. The procedures were validated by studying the elution characteristics of some of the major polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons which are known to be present and by comparison with a well-established GC-UV procedure.
