The fate of certain organic acids and amides in the rabbit. 11. Further observations on the hydrolysis of amides by tissue extracts

Abstract
Nearly half of 47 amides were readily hydrolyzed by amidase of rabbit liver extract. The extent of hydrolysis was influenced by the number of C atoms in straight-chain aliphatic amides and by the position of substituents in aromatic amides. Expts. with typical aliphatic, omega-phenylsubstituted aliphatic and aromatic amides suggested that the same amidase was concerned with the hydrolysis of all. The amidase was most effective at pH 8.2-8.4.
