MORPHIN INTOXICATION IN ADRENALECTOMISED RATS

Abstract
About 70% of the adrenalectomized rats were killed by 0.04 mgm. per gm. of morphine hydrochloride, 1/10 the lethal dose for normal rats. The rats were still hypersensitive to morphine in a lesser degree 5 weeks after adrenalectomy. Hyperglycemia was produced in normal rats by 0.04 mgm. per gm. of morphine hydro-chloride and in adrenalectomized animals by 0.01 mgm. per gm. Repeated glucose injections did not increase tolerance to morphine in normal rats.
