Biological value of the proteins of a variety of fish meals

Abstract
Net protein utilization was calculated for 27 fish meals and deodorized fish flours, using the rat carcass-analysis method. Net protein utilization ratings ranged from 80 for undamaged, commercial, lean-fish meal, to 18 for grossly maltreated fish meal. There was however no consistent evidence of serious damage to protein quality from the defatting and deodorizing processes whereby meals are converted to fish flours for human consumption.
