Abstract
Angular distributions of 43-MeV alpha particles scattered by Mn55 and Co59 have been derived. The angular distributions for reactions leading to the levels at 0.98 and 1.88 MeV in Mn55 are out of phase with elastic scattering. The Mn55 spectra lack the very strong collective quadrupole group. Eight peaks from Mn55 and seven from Co59 were resolved. The Co59 spectra are similar to those from Ni60, except that the excitation energies are slightly smaller in Co59. The collective quadrupole group in Co59 is at least 0.3 MeV wide.
