Isolation and identification of anti-platelet aggregation principles from the bark of Fraxinus japonica Blume.

Abstract
The methanol extract of the bark of E. japonica was fractionated, and by following the inhibitory activities on rat hind paw edema induced by carrageenan and on rabbit platelet aggregation induced by arachidonic acid, the following active principles were isolated and identified: 2-(3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl)ethanol 2,6-dimethoxy-p-benzoquinone, and esculetin.
