A description is given of the 3 methods used by Guyer in the production of. eye defects in rabbits. Each method sought to produce in the blood of the mother lens antibodies which passed through the placenta into the circulation of the fetus, thereby causing changes in the eye. Guyer''s 3 methods were duplicated as nearly as possible, but on a larger scale. No defective eyed offspring, however, were produced. Lens antibody in large quantities was shown to be present in the blood of many of the pregnant animals. For some unknown reason none of this antibody permeated the placenta in sufficient quantity to produce any noticeable effect on the offspring. Since no defective eyed animals were produced, the inheritance of induced eye defects could not be studied.
