Determination of Domain Wall Energies in Rare Earth Cobalt Compounds

Abstract
Domain wall spacing W as a function of crystal thickness T was measured both on the axial plane and on the basal plane of single crystal SmCo 5 specimens and, as expected, W values were larger for the axial plane domain structures. W vs T relationships were obtained for several rare earth cobalt compounds from axial plane domain structures on single crystal particles. Domain wall energy was calculated from the experimental data and also from a theoretical expression and the results correlate well.
