Abstract
Pre-treatment of rats with anti-thyroid compounds or certain goitrogenic diets markedly raised their resistance to toxic thioureas. This effect was used as an assay method in extracting a crystalline anti-thyroid compound from rape seed. The extraction process is described in detail. The compound agreed in physical properties with one isolated by a different method from various Brassica spp. by Astwood, Greer and Ettlinger and shown by them to be L-5-vinyl-2-thiooxazolidone.Keywords
