Abstract
A method is proposed for the recovery of phase information from a single intensity distribution. The proposal requires the use of a specially designed spatial filter and is analyzed for a one-dimensional case using the theory of entire functions. The only, and unlikely, ambiguity is detectable a posteriori. Keywords
