Abstract
A statement of drive as a quantified construct based on expts. with rats is presented. This formulation involves the functional relationship of drive intensity to hours of food deprivation. The components of this formulation represent drive and an inanition index. This latter construct is 1 minus enfeeblement (a positively accelerated monotonic function of hours of hunger, increasing from 0 to 1). The inanition index is a positively accelerated monotonic function of hours of hunger, decreasing from 1 to 0. On the basis of this formulation, drive is a positive monotonic S-shaped function of hours of hunger. Keywords
