RELATIONSHIP OF TEMPERATURE TO INAPPARENT INFECTION OF HELA CELLS WITH HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS

Abstract
Herpes simplex virus production either did not occur or took place very slowly in He La cultures nourished with maintenance medium and incubated at 25[degree]C for 9 days. Elevation of the temperature of incubation to 35[degree]C resulted in prompt production of herpes virus in herpes-infected He La cultures which had been incubated at 25[degree]C for as long as 6 days. Inactivatfon of extracellular herpes virus proceeds rapidly at 25[degree]C, but a measurable amount of virus is still present after 14 days.
