Abstract
A calculation is made of the effect of a charge-dependent internucleon potential on the -decay matrix element. It is found that a not unreasonable strength and form for such a potential can lead to a reduction in the matrix element ≈1% which is of the right order of magnitude to resolve the present discrepancy between the - and -decay polar vector coupling constants.
