Proteolytic cleavage of the repressor (BlaI) of β-lactamase synthesis in Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract
The proteolytic cleavage of BlaI was shown to correlate with β-lactamase synthesis in Staphylococcus aureus . BlaI was found to be autoregulatory when expressed from the blaZ promoter. Insertion of a 10-bp linker into the Sna BI site of blaRI resulted in constitutive synthesis of β-lactamase.
