Necrotizing fasciitis due to group A beta-hemolytic streptococci

Abstract
Necrotizing fasciitis due to group A β-hemolytic streptococci is a serious acute cutaneous infection which is distinct from erysipelas and other ulcerating and gangrenous processes. It is characterized by rapidly spreading, ill-defined erythema followed by painless ulceration and necrosis along fascial planes. A satisfactory outcome depends on early recognition, and vigorous medical and surgical management.
