Abstract
We show that string theories allow interactions potentially leading to photon and graviton-mass terms when one or more scalar fields acquire vacuum expectation values. A general analysis is presented for the case when one of these scalars is the electroweak Higgs-boson doublet. The results provide a new constraint on model building for string theories. Keywords
