Abstract
With the use of I131 labeled l-thyroxine and l-triiodothyronine, both similarities and differences were found in the metabolism of the 2 thyroid hormones by homogenates of rat brain (Tata, J.R., Rall, J.E., and Rawson, R.W., Endocrinol. 60: 83, 1957) and skeletal muscle. The deiodinating enzyme is present in both tissues whereas the deaminating activity, found in brain preparations, is virtually absent in skeletal muscle.
