Abstract
A variational method due to Mansoori and Canfield for finding the equation of state of a liquid has been extended to the case where atoms have a pair potential whose Fourier transform is known analytically. The method is used to calculate thermodynamic properties of sodium. The results are in good agreement with experiment. Keywords
