The insulin requirement of the alloxan-diabetic dog was not altered by ligation of the pancreatic ducts. Some weeks after ligation, the atrophic pancreas was removed, and then the insulin requirement was shown to be decreased. The pancreatic enzymes may not play a causative role, and the data support the concept of the occurrence of a hyperglycemic-glycogenolytic humoral factor in the pancreas.
