Abstract
In a series of 121 cancers of the anal canal and peri-anal region, the incidence of adenocarcinoma was 6.6% (8cases). The growth of tumors from initial symptoms to death was rapid, ranging from 1 1/2 to 4 yr. after initial symptoms (mean 2.8 yr.). Two patients are free of neoplastic disease 3 yr. after abdominoperineal resection; a 3rd died with metastatic disease 1 yr. 3 mo. after operation. Radiation therapy had no influence. Extended abdominoperineal resection appears to be the best treatment for this rare tumor. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
