Antifeeding Effects of the Fungicide Guazatine Triacetate on Insect Defoliators of Soybeans and Peanuts1

Abstract
A significant reduction in feeding damage from lepidopterous larvae was found in test plots treated with the fungicide guazatine triacetate (GTA) (9-aza-1,17-diguanidinoheptadecane triacetate) when sprayed on a 14-day full-season program for control of leafspot of field peanuts, Arachis hypogaea L. Greenhouse and laboratory tests conducted with larvae of the soybean looper, Pseudoplusia includens (Walker), indicated that GTA was not toxic at field dosages but acted as an antifeeding agent. The fungicide was as effective against the 2 leafspot organisms, Cercospora arachidicola Hori and Cercosporidium personatum (Berk. & Curt.) Deighton, as currently recommended fungicides. Results suggest that GTA may be a good candidate for use in integrated pest management programs.
