Preparation and infrared spectra of alkali and alkaline earth metal chlorosulfates

Abstract
A new method for the preparation of alkali and alkaline earth metal chlorosulfates is described which involves the precipitation of the salts from saturated solutions in chlorosulfuric acid using thionyl chloride. The infrared spectra of all the chlorosulfates in the region 400–1500 cm−1 have been measured and the assignment of the frequencies is discussed.
