Abstract
Biopsy guided by transrectal ultrasound is an evolving technique. It is controversial if ultrasound guidance is needed if an abnormality is palpable, but it appears to be of value to assist in rebiopsy when a digitally guided study is negative. It may be useful when cancer is suspected but no abnormality is palpable and in treatment monitoring and follow-up. Its value in patients without palpable abnormalities requires further study.
